Magalí Sare & Manel Fortià

Magali Sare and Manel Fortià use the double bass as a source of multiple sound, squeezing all its potential. It seems like there is an orchestra centered in it.

They sound like one, they play in a way that the audience focuses on each movement, on each note.

Magalí and Manel love to break all boundaries, they are not predictable in live concerts, and they take a lot of risks raising the quality of their performances. The audience falls in love with the ductile and multifaceted voice and acting of Magalí with unexpected turns. Their project offers us a review of different Latin-American and Catalan songs from an open-minded and audacious perspective, as if the duo practiced the craft of the navigator and searched for treasures from shore to shore, but without giving up imbuing the findings with their own proud Mediterranean nature. Definitely, they are offering to the audience an unconventional and unpredictable and stimulating work.

The vocal-bass jazz duo is not an easy one to carry off but they were very convincing and musical. They had an excellent chemistry and were able to improvise with a supple elegance. I thought their inventive reinterpretation of the Beatles’ ‘Michelle’ was the best I’d ever heard of the song! I feel they would appeal very much to the London-based jazz audience.
